Shaw Contract receives three Best of NeoCon Awards in 2016

June 14, 2016 – Shaw Contract is pleased to announce three Best of NeoCon Awards for 2016:

The brand has received Best of NeoCon awards 14 out of the last 15 years, and these recent wins reinforce Shaw Contract’s position and relevance in the commercial interiors market.

“It’s always rewarding for Shaw Contract to be named a Best of NeoCon Award recipient, as our designers, marketing teams and entire brand works tirelessly year-round to launch products that are great to look at – but also innovative, durable, functional and flexible.” Said John Stephens, VP Marketing.

Four new collections launched at NeoCon 2016: Modern Edit, Extraordinary, Places and Configure.  More details and press releases for all NeoCon collection launches are available here.

Modern Edit Broadloom – Silver in Broadloom

Modern Edit connects to the past and re-frames the concept of heritage. Tactile materials are disrupted by elements with an industrial edge, and textile craft is emboldened with unconventional scales and imperfect finishes. This collection introduces three new 18×36 carpet tile designs and two broadlooms, thoughtfully designed to reveal a distressed opulence.

Intricate, the 12x24 LVT option, adds to the cohesive product story of the Modern Edit collection.

Modern Edit LVT – Editor’s Choice in Hard-Surface

The LVT component of the Modern Edit collection introduces Intricate, a new 12×24 resilient style. Tactile materials are disrupted by elements with an industrial edge.  Unconventional scale and imperfect finish enhances the handmade aesthetic.  Exploring a new approach to hard surface design, here we’ve created a new emboss to follow the pattern and add dimension. The Modern Edit collection transcends barriers of residential and commercial aesthetics, allowing you to move from hard surface to carpet tile and custom rugs for a cohesive product story.

The Create Centre will be an important tool in supporting our vision of growth for our commercial business including global expansion and domestic market leadership.”
The new workspace will provide a collaborative environment that facilitates the sharing of ideas; that ignites fresh thinking; that fosters Shaw’s culture of innovation, diversity and inclusion; and that showcases Shaw Contract and Patcraft’s design and performance leadership.
Designed by architecture firm Gensler, the Centre is expected to be USGBC LEED certified and will feature ample daylight and open collaborative spaces. “This building will be as beautiful as it is functional and sustainable, much like our own products,” notes Brenda Knowles, vice president of marketing, Shaw commercial division. “We are
committed to continuously providing clients with the best solutions for their projects, and the Create Centre will provide the ideal setting for our talented team members to create, dream, collaborate, and solve challenges.”
This $24 million facility represents Shaw’s ongoing investment in its commercial business. Louis Dreyfus a 2015 Design Is…Award Market Winner

Shaw Contract Group conducted interviews with all firms representing Market-Award winning projects from the 2015 Design Is…Award program. As part of this process, we share a portion of the response on our blog for readers to learn more about the winning projects.  These are their stories.

Here, Andy Cheyne addresses the design process for Louis Dreyfus in Calgary Canada.

Describe this project in one word. Responsive.

How does this project demonstrate how design can impact users in a space?

In this case, the mantra “choice equals personal effectiveness” resonated during the programming process and in the resulting design. By providing access to shared-public, shared-private or quiet-private space the space becomes responsive to the needs of its users.

Design is a process. Explain your journey.

By beginning the project with getting to know our client Louis Dreyfus, we talked through their culture, their challenges and their vision, and were able to unveil the need for open collaboration, technology choices, and a bright interactive space. The result was a seamless open floorplan providing quiet areas with non-built components like furniture, drapery and ceiling elements that softly delineate the zones. Adjacent to the central staff café is a technology hub, with optimal video-conferencing collaboration. Against a neutral palette, cobalt blues and lemon yellows were used to brand and engage the employees, a further response to the need for a bright and interactive environment.

What are the most important lessons you’ve learned through this project that you’d want to share with the designers of tomorrow?

For us, design is more than how a workplace looks. We believe good design has the power to transform how that workplace functions. By working with the team at Louis Dreyfus and learning about their organization’s goals, we were able to create an award winning space responsive to their needs.

How does this project demonstrate how design can impact users in a space? The project reflects the client’s brand and increases productivity and performance through spatial relationships and collaborative spaces, and also provides amenities and an aesthetically outstanding environment to help with employee retention and recruiting.

Design is a process. Explain your journey. We spend a large amount of time with the client during the programming phase to really get to know them well and ensure that their national standards would function well for the Los Angeles practice and therefore we were able to adjust some of these standards to better serve the LA Office.

Security Sat a 2015 Design Is…Award Market Winner

Shaw Contract Group conducted interviews with all firms representing Market-Award winning projects from the 2015 Design Is…Award program. As part of this process, we share a portion of the response on our blog for readers to learn more about the winning projects.  These are their stories.

Here, Pablo Redondo addresses the design process for Security Sat in Santiago, Chile.

Describe this project in one word. Interaction.

How does this project demonstrate how design can impact users in a space?Beauty as we understand it, is a complex and unique state of shapes and language. It is also a pleasant state of mind and that’s how design can impact a space user. It gives a state of beauty.

SOF15133740_j

Design is a process. Explain your journey. Our journey begins in the understanding of the client – and the client’s objective. Concepts can be difficult to translate to other minds, so it is very important to understand how to relate to and find the correct visual language. Next, we identify practices or non-practices that separate the user from the identified goal. Proposal is the key to unlock resistance and uncertainty. This is very important to understand the client language – and being able to communicate solutions and added value.

SOF15133740_e

What are the most important lessons you’ve learned through this project that you’d want to share with the designers of tomorrow?  I believe the most important factor in the design process is to focus on the client instead of ourselves as designers. We will be understood as long as we speak so they will understand. Communication is the key and it is our responsibility.
