Pantone’s 2014 Color of the Year: Radiant Orchid

Pantone recently announced the 2014 color of the year, which will share the title with past colors including Emerald and Tangerine Tango. And the color of 2014 is: Radiant Orchid.

“While the 2013 color of the year, PANTONE 17-5641 Emerald, served as a symbol of growth, renewal and prosperity, Radiant Orchid reaches across the color wheel to intrigue the eye and spark the imagination,” said Leatrice Eiseman, executive director of the Pantone Color Institute®. “An invitation to innovation, Radiant Orchid encourages expanded creativity and originality, which is increasingly valued in today’s society.”

Pantone’s 2013 Color of the Year: Emerald

Pantone has chosen their 2013 Color of the Year: Emerald. Emerald, a vivid, verdant green, enhances our sense of well-being further by inspiring insight, as well as promoting balance and harmony. Often associated with gemstones, Emerald has been the color of beauty and new life in many cultures and religions. For centuries, many countries have chosen green to represent healing and unity. The luxurious hue is also the color of growth, renewal and prosperity.

“Green is the most abundant hue in nature – the human eye sees more green than any other color in the spectrum,” said Leatrice Eiseman, executive director of the Pantone Color Institute®. “As it has throughout history, multifaceted Emerald continues to sparkle and fascinate. Symbolically, Emerald brings a sense of clarity, renewal and rejuvenation, which is so important in today’s complex world. This powerful and universally appealing tone translates easily to both fashion and home interiors.”

As mentioned above, the color green represents healing and enhances our sense of well-being. Shaw Contract Group’s design team often looks to hues like greens when creating collections for healthcare facilities. Our design studio uses evidence-based design  to drive development, which also means choosing colors that add visual warmth while influencing emotions, sleep and wakefulness. Learn more here.
