Earlier this year, Shaw Contract Group held a content on Pinterest asking teachers to pin their dream classroom. Winners received a giftcard for supplies for their classroom. The contest gave us a glimpse into what teachers see as good classroom design. The results of which, Shaw Contract Group will apply to our product development and share with those who are designing future classrooms.
So what makes a dream classroom? A tablet for every student? Walls made of Legos? Imaginative reading nooks? Below are some ideas that made it into our winning teachers’ Pinterest boards.
(Clockwise from left) The SMART Table is a social, inclusive and captivating collaboration tool that makes it easy to get young students excited about learning. It’s a great way to enhance the social and academic skills of active learners and help all students achieve success; Functional and pretty organization is on the top of the list for any teacher; Unique seating adds a fun element to a classroom: Stone-looking cushions from Stephanie Marin put a smile on your face, Herman Miller Tato, Tatino & Tatone spherical seats; Safeco Runtz Ball Chair; What child wouldn’t want a wall made of Legos (like this cafe in Brooklyn, NY)?
There is a lot that goes into creating the perfect pictures of our products. We use some beautiful furniture and props in our shoots, but sometimes we have to get a little more creative to get that perfect photo.
We enlisted the help of artist Ryan Bradburn to create some custom pieces for our Hexagon and Collide photos. On his blog, he shares progress shots of the hexagon-shaped light box along with the melting table from Collide.

Drawn to the beauty and process of natural eco-dyeing, the Shaw Contract Group design team partnered with the Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD) to gain more insight into this medium. Through a fiber art competition, students submitted original, innovative work that inspired our new carpet collection, Natural Palette. Industry leaders from Interior Design magazine, SmithGroupJJR, Perkins + Will and Mancini Duffy chose their favorite projects as winners. The winning students will receive a cash prize and be exposed to thousands of worldwide industry professionals — a terrific path for beginning a career. The first place winner will also attend NeoCon, where Natural Palette will be launched.
And the winners are…
FIRST PLACE: Maria Cristina Oreamuno - "Cabuya: The potential of an unexposed delicacy"
SECOND PLACE: Jamie Galloway – Permaculture Collection
