Intrigued by the simplicity of hand drawn lines, this collection examines line widths, irregularities and imperfections – along with various techniques that capture intimate glimpses of the artist’s personality.  Here, we grant ourselves permission to return to the sketch.  Putting computers and devices aside, we re-engage our instincts, which shaped the design industry before technology.

Experimenting with a variety of tools, techniques and papers revealed all pattern inspiration within the collection, which will boast a wide cross-market appeal.  The collection includes three 18×36 tile options and two coordinating broadlooms.  All styles are available in 12 colors.

Taking Shape: Education carpet collection nods to Matisse

The concept of cutting shapes and elements may seem juvenile, but painter Henri Matisse did so in a way that a new art form was born. The French painter shifted to the world of cut-outs as chronic illness diminished his ability to work the paintbrush. By cutting and creating, the artist was truly taking the idea of form back to it’s roots. His creations varied from simple to abstract, while playing with varying color, contrast, shapes and sizes.

“The Parakeet and the Mermaid” (1952), gouache on paper, cut and pasted, and charcoal on white paper, by Henri Matisse.

This same concept is reflected in Shaw Contract Group’s new education collection Cut & Compose, as abstract elements are cut, rotated, deconstructed and composed to form the graphic aesthetic found in these designs. Through this collection, learning environments are transformed into motivational spaces and a bold statement is made.

Study in Motion: Four new tile designs create movement and define public space

Study in Motion: Four new tile designs create movement and define public space

Offering a new solution for open environments, Shaw Contract Group’s new 24”x24” carpet tile collection, Flight, creates movement and defines space in environments free of structural constraint. Bold patterns inspired by how we move interplays with color, stripe and a shifting ombre – achieving a directional impact within a vast space. Drawing inspiration from the pavers of ancient plazas and the mathematics behind people moving from one location to another, the designs fold movement into static statements and provide new options for building scale and dimension.

“This collection is the result of our interest in the science of how people move through space. We explored computational studies of exactly how people move airports, and immersed ourselves in Levy Flights, a garrulous mathematical model which echoes our movement through space and time,” said Shaw Contract Group Creative Director, Reesie Duncan.

Large scale and open, public spaces are typically impacted by architecture. Flooring serves as a third facade, in addition to walls and ceilings. Free of structural constraint, Flight assists with way-finding and defines movement – places to walk, places to pause, places to gather.

Designed for public ambiance and engineered for heavy foot traffic, Flight provides a comprehensive flooring solution, featuring four tile products that are varied yet connected. Available in 13 colors, the palette features warm and cool tones as well as bold color options, which create varying degrees of movement and energy depending on how the styles are used within a space.

Products include:

  • Pause Tile: a static style, defining quieter moments within space
  • Step Tile: an ombre that exudes movement and can be stretched, injecting directional energy
  • Interact Tile: a stripe, akin to a quickened stride – building scale, it directs the eye and assists in wayfinding.
  • Vantage Tile: a bold, geometric shape adds a large glimpse of interest to the floor.

All styles are 22 ounces and are constructed of EcoSolution Q fiber and EcoWorx backing, offering a lifetime commercial warranty covering abrasive wear, tuft bind, edge ravel and delamination. Cradle to Cradle Silver certified, completely recyclable and manufactured with recycled content, all products offer a sustainable flooring solution and contribute to LEED certification.

Design Journey II5015_d

Design Journey:  Novice & Master
Design Journey is an exploration of deep-rooted cultures and handmade traditions and how people reach across the globe to link the two.   Inspired by our travels to Cambodia and Laos, we immersed ourselves in the culture, craft and technique of artisan weavers. Design Journey captures the art of silk weaving in a luxurious and richly textured collection of designs. The travels resulted in a plush, textural and sophisticated collection featuring varied scales of textures and 9 styles in 16 colors, including warm and cool neutrals and deep rich hues.

Open public spaces and large scale workplaces are typically impacted by architecture, so we designed Flight with public ambiance in mind and engineered the collection for heavy foot traffic. A comprehensive flooring solution, Flight features four tile products, available in 13 colors. Bold pattern interplays with color, stripes and a shifting ombre – achieving a directional impact within a vast space.

Collective Time
Based on the internal clockwork of humankind, Collective Time is a tile and broadloom collection, taking inspiration of the shifting light captured from day to night and proportions of time tracked in our daily routines of activity and rest. The collection explores the changing of light from dawn to dusk and allows the styles to be used to create scale and subtle color shifts. Broadloom and tile can be combined to create a dynamic interactive pattern mix or a more monochromatic space.

Grain + Pigment is a versatile offering of luxury vinyl plank featuring updated wood grain textures and subtly striated near-solids. Natural wood tones, metallic sheen and colors ranging from warm to cool to bright give unlimited possibilities in one plank format. The integrated palette can be mixed to create nuanced transitions with a subtle textural shift or bold contrasts of color. The collection an opportunity to design spaces using a palette of warm and cool tones and bold color options and metallics to inject luxe energy.
