Modern Edit Broadloom – Silver in Broadloom

Modern Edit connects to the past and re-frames the concept of heritage. Tactile materials are disrupted by elements with an industrial edge, and textile craft is emboldened with unconventional scales and imperfect finishes. This collection introduces three new 18×36 carpet tile designs and two broadlooms, thoughtfully designed to reveal a distressed opulence.

Intricate, the 12x24 LVT option, adds to the cohesive product story of the Modern Edit collection.

Modern Edit LVT – Editor’s Choice in Hard-Surface

The LVT component of the Modern Edit collection introduces Intricate, a new 12×24 resilient style. Tactile materials are disrupted by elements with an industrial edge.  Unconventional scale and imperfect finish enhances the handmade aesthetic.  Exploring a new approach to hard surface design, here we’ve created a new emboss to follow the pattern and add dimension. The Modern Edit collection transcends barriers of residential and commercial aesthetics, allowing you to move from hard surface to carpet tile and custom rugs for a cohesive product story.

committed to continuously providing clients with the best solutions for their projects, and the Create Centre will provide the ideal setting for our talented team members to create, dream, collaborate, and solve challenges.”
This $24 million facility represents Shaw’s ongoing investment in its commercial business. In the past few years, Shaw has significantly grown its commercial sales team; opened new showrooms throughout the world; and invested more than $85 million in an additional carpet tile manufacturing facility, which will open in Adairsville,
Ga. later this year.

MODERN EDIT COLLECTION: A 2016 Shaw Contract NeoCon Launch

Here we’vve created a mixed installation of two colors of tile style Ornate.

Connecting to the past. Re-framing the concept of heritage. Tactile materials are disrupted by elements with an industrial edge, and textile craft is emboldened with unconventional scales and imperfect finishes. Modern Edit introduces three new 18×36 carpet tile designs and two broadlooms, thoughtfully designed to reveal a distressed opulence.
The styles in this collection reflect a sense of place and history by paying homage to textile heritage. Here, luxury is defined artisanal deconstruction and unexpectedly delicate details as we expose the tension between femininity and structure and revisit heritage with threadbare, yet luxurious authenticity:
Narrative Tile is a refined, discreet, archival texture with a sense of the past with a modern take.
Rethread Tile creates a threadbare texture of scale, aesthetically broken-in but with the integrity of something new & untouched.
Ornate Tile is a subtle approach to adornment – reminiscent of Persian textiles with sculpted texture.
Edition is a small scale broadloom pattern with inlaid texture and high contrast for a subtle plush field.
Inherit is a large scale rhythmic broadloom design where stitches and structures become looser to reveal a confident pattern element.
“Merging design across workplace and residential segments drives desire to create a sense of place, lineage or personal history,” Said Reesie Duncan, VP Design. “This collection speaks to the aesthetic psychology of a comforting unspoken narrative.”
The collection palette features neutrals & colors to infuse the collection’s traditional foundation with a fresh visual approach. Modern Edit transcends the barriers of residential and commercial aesthetics to appeal to a broader audience of application. The collection allows you to move from hard surface to carpet tile and custom area rugs to create an innovative & cohesive product story.
At Shaw Contract, we believe that everything matters. Constructed with EcoWorx tile backing (broadloom styles on UltraLoc) & Eco Solution Q nylon, the products in this collection are Cradle to Cradle Silver & assessed for impact on health + the environment. EcoWorx products are recyclable, contribute to LEED & backed by Environmental Guarantee. The Shaw Contract lifetime commercial warranty covers abrasive wear, tuft-bind, edge ravel and delamination.

EXTRAORDINARY COLLECTION: A 2016 Shaw Contract NeoCon Launch
Shaw Extraordinary

Create a layered landscape by mixing tile styles Primitive, Resurface and Foundation.

Connect to the sensory. Low tech, exaggerated textures and natural elements provoke the sense of touch. New landscapes emerge, wild and nomadic . Creating a tactile atmosphere to enhance the senses. Expanded plank format 12×48 provides a new sensory experience underfoot. See. Touch. Feel.
This collection encourages people to slow down and reconnect with the sense of touch. Without touch, we cannot understand our environment. The digital world lacks sensitivity. By developing contradictory visual and tactile experiences with physical connections to our environment, we can still be human. Experience a path of natural, intuitive interactions that allows you to slow down and explore the power of the sense of touch.
The new plank size of 12×48 in adds scale and dimension to the floor as three designs can combine or be used alone to generate varying degrees of texture:
Primitive: A modern shag that injects bold, exaggerated tactility.                           Resurface: provides consistent textured aesthetic and is a perfect transition from Primitive to the still flatness of Foundation.
“The collection is largely inspired by process and pushing current technologies to new heights,” said VP Design, Reesie Duncan. “Using Tapistron machinery, stray ends of yarn are typically left on the carpet face after tufting. Usually, we we take this excess material and shear it, but here, we use it as a styled feature By rethinking technology and modifying the process, this element was exaggerated to inject bold and dramatic texture.”
Pattern is implied through varied texture and a natural, tonal palette to enhance the relief. Hinting at raised foliage and nordic landscapes to create moments of respite, we explore the emotions texture can influence – highlighting the user experience underfoot.
At Shaw Contract, we believe everything matters. Constructed with EcoWorx backing & Eco Solution Q nylon, the products in this collection are Cradle to Cradle Silver & assessed for impact on health + the environment. EcoWorx products are recyclable, contribute to LEED & backed by Environmental Guarantee. The Shaw Contract lifetime commercial warranty covers abrasive wear, tuft-bind, edge ravel and delamination.

CONFIGURE COLLECTION: A 2016 Shaw Contract NeoCon Launch
Configure_Room_Scene_Contact_and_ColorShift_forIDpreview

This installation features Contact and Color Shift, two of the hexagonal styles in the Configure collection.

Configured to interact. Hexagonal format and Asymmetric shapes combine at random, providing connectivity to build scale and enhance user experience. Designed to promote impromptu interaction, Configure assists with way finding and provides alluring, visual interest. Deconstructed, rhythmic patterns and bold color encourage a more imaginative, playful approach with installation.
Building on the success of our 2013 launch of the Hexagon collection, it was appropriate timing to add to the portfolio of existing styles. We selected the current style Plane as a base for the Configure collection, and focused on complementing the best-selling colors with 14 new additions to the palette. These include: six cool greys, one yellow, three teals, one coral, and three shades of magenta.
Four styles comprise the collection, all of which are 26oz multi-level pattern cut/loop construction and made with EcoSolution Q nylon on EcoWorx backing:
Base: features a 9-color, neutral palette of shifting shapes that are both graphic and subtle
Contact: is a neutral style with a vibrant color edge. It can be used as a transition piece or for minimal color accents. Available in 6 colors.
Color Shift: available in 5 saturated colors for moments of impact. This style works in connection with contact.
Plane– the foundation of the collection. Plane is one of the original Hexagon collection styles, updated with 14 new color options.
When asked to share a bit of the inspiration and development for this collection, VP of Design Reesie Duncan said, “When we developed Hexagon in 2013, workplace design was shifting to the open model – with emphasis on social connections and the many zones of work that takes place within a space. That collection provides the perfect solution for adding definition in an organic way- as well as ways to incorporate scale and directional cues. Now, three years later, the concept of workplace continues to evolve. We see the blurring of boundaries and the concept of moveable paths and visual cues to create an intuitive experience. Deconstructing the hexagon is a sophisticated way to integrate these concepts on the floor. Configure is a connected system of shapes that can build a system of shifting color and pattern through a space.”

Design Students Share Their Experiences at Shaw Singapore

shaw-singapore-1

SINGAPORE, 23 October 2015 —
As part of Shaw Contract Group’s social responsibility efforts in Singapore, Shaw welcomed the bright young minds and their mentors to its newly opened space for a night of networking evening in commemoration of Temasek Polytechnic’s Mentor Apprenticeship Pilot Program on 21 October 2015.

Temasek Polytechnic’s Mentor Apprenticeship Pilot Program was designed to provide the rare opportunity to eight eager Interior Architecture and Design Year Two students of the School of Design to shadow an industry leader and to work closely with him/her on a current project. It is a unique program designed to connect students with an industry leader on a one-on-one mentoring opportunity giving them an eye-opening experience beyond the confines of their school walls.

The program at its pilot stage has seen huge support from the Design and Architecture industry with big names such as Simon McDonald, Design Director at Studio HBA, Simon Raper, Director of MMoser Associates, Matthew Burke, Regional Leader Asia at Geyer, Camy Tan, Director of Marketing and Design Communications, Matilda Sung, Design Leader at Woods Bagot, Vanessa Lin and Archie Cruda, Brand and Communication Manager and Head, Design Excellence Centre at Space Matrix, taking part as mentors to help steer the programme to a more robust regular offering to Temasek Polytechnic design students.

The networking event was the first time where all stakeholders of the program came together to collectively share their experiences and provide feedback for the pilot. Each student apprentice gave a short presentation on their key  takeaways from the first-hand experience in the industry during their last semester break. The student apprentices spent their last vacation break shadowing their mentors and are expected to continue to work with their mentors again in their next vacation break in March.

As a design hub and catalyst for design excellence, Shaw Contract Group hopes to continually attract more creative minds to its creative space where the local economy will have access to and come together to collaborate, share and exchange ideas and applications.

With the take-off of this pilot, Temasek Polytechnic hopes to have student apprentices tagged to their mentors throughout their three year diploma program, including their compulsory six-month internship during their third year. This unique program is designed with the objective that student graduates will have the opportunity to gain relevant background and work experience for them to integrate into the workplace seamlessly.

Based on insightful feedback from students and mentors, it was agreed that the pilot has gotten off to a good start. One apprentice even had the rare chance to tag along for an interior design photo shoot. Student apprentices also expressed their appreciation and gratitude for their mentors by presenting them with heartfelt gifts at the end of their presentations. The mentors also commented on the potential of the program and the students, such as building their confidence in sharing their ideas or creativity in design, a critical skill required in the workplace.

Two Temasek Polytechnic scholars also had the opportunity to showcase their installations on that same evening. These students spent about three weeks prior specially designing the installations which were inspired by Shaw’s latest collection – Hand Drawn and Altered.

Shaw-Singapore-2

Inspired by Shaw’s Hand Drawn carpet collection, Muhammad Nor Nazul created ‘Hand Drawn’ to to depict how imperfections and irregularities can be transformed into beautiful designs. There were markers alongside the art installation, urging people to add on and “complete” to the ‘imperfect, unfinished’ installation. The piece was the artist’s attempt to convey the beauty in imperfections.

Shaw-Singapore-3

Inspired by Shaw’s Altered carpet collection, Darren Ng created ‘Altered’ with the mind-set that everybody has a different perspective. The curved surface of the installation allows one to have changing perspective from every angle with the reflecting mirrors, creating a sense of illusion.

The evening concluded with mentors and mentees both feeling inspired to do more and better when the next semester break happens in March 2016.

NEOCON: NOBLE MATERIALS

We studied the charts and diagrams that alchemists meticulously plotted in the search to transform base metals into noble metals, such as gold, silver and copper. The result is a curated material study. Layered in luxury, modern marquetry is interpreted via pattern & data-inspired inlays for an exquisite flooring statement.
