NEOCON: Exploring the Design Implications of the Affordable Care Act

MASS Design Group and Shaw Contract Group host CEU presentation at NeoCon

As we design new infrastructure solutions within the current restraints on development, we must recognize that hospital architecture remains our interface with the healthcare system and should be considered an integral factor in approaching the problem of access.  Designers have a current opportunity to participate in the conversation of designing integrated solutions to persistent problems in healthcare.

On June 15, during Chicago’s annual NeoCon expo, Shaw Contract Group will present a compelling look at how the Affordable Care Act impacts the future of healthcare design during a live conversation with Michael Murphy of MASS Design Group. A non-profit design firm based in Boston, MA and Kigali, Rwanda, MASS Design Group provides infrastructure, buildings, and the human and physical systems necessary for growth, dignity and wellbeing.

The event includes lunch and provides attendees an opportunity to earn CEU credit (IDCEC and AIA qualifying for Health Safety Wellness). The event is limited to a small audience, but designers and architects who will not be at NeoCon can schedule a filmed version of this CEU by contacting their local Shaw Contract Group Account Manager.

Reesie Duncan Discusses Design Journey and its Inspiration

Design Journey: Novice & Master, this year’s Best of NeoCon Silver Award-winner for modular flooring, was inspired by our designers’ travels to Cambodia and Laos.

“Design Journey started out as a research project within our design group where our designers really have a passion for travel and craft. We explored the idea that different craft cultures in the world are really in danger of dying and being extinct,” says Reesie Duncan, Creative Director

The design team explored the differences between generations: the novice weaver who is learning the craft vs. the master weaver who has perfected it. The Novice part of the collection is inspired by the inconsistencies in the weaves while precise patterns and ornamental weavings were the inspiration behind Master.
